Juan Carlos González Juan Carlos Gonzalez earned a BA at Law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, and later studied Masters in Maritime Law (LLM) from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE), Madrid, in Shipping Management (MSc) by the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden (Scholarship from the Canadian Government) and LLM Master in International Maritime Law from the International Maritime Law Institute, Valetta, Malta (Scholarship from the Nippon Foundation, Japan). Additionally, he has conducted several international courses of specialization in the areas of marine insurance in London, Development Law in Rome, transport policies in Washington, Options and Derivatives in the New York Merchantile Exchange Futures, among others. He has been an executive of companies such as Tecniseguros, Flota Petrolera Ecuatoriana (FLOPEC) and Oleoducto de Crudos Pesados (OCP). In FLOPEC served as Legal Coordinator, Secretary of the Board and member of the Business Development Unit. Juan Carlos González has also advised the General Manager and Chairman of the Board on legal matters and international trade. He was the liaison with external lawyers in New York (Freehill Hogan & Mahar), London (Clifford Chance) and Panama (De Castro & Robles), he was also delegated by this company in international arbitration tribunals. Advisor to Flopec setting up the Panamax International Pool of Tankers OSG - New York and SONAP - Chile, the pool operates 20 tankers. Advisor in negotiating a joint venture with Tsakos Energy Navigation, shipping company listed in New York, to partially buy 49% of two tankers. Successful negotiation of another tanker with Tsakos in Greece. Successful negotiation of two tankers with Hyundai Heavy Industry in Korea. Later he was a member of Ecuador’s Free Trade Agreement negotiation team with the USA.He was also an Ecuadorian negotiator with the Andean Community in Lima (CAN) with Bolivia, Colombia and Peru in the service area. Juan Carlos is the representative of the Franco-Thai oil company Tipco Asphalt Public Company Limited in Ecuador. He has been a visiting professor at the School of Business in the Universidad del Pacífico in Quito. |
